Culture and heritage

Chamonix is a vibrant alpine town with a wonderful architectural heritage that bears witness to a wealth of history. The Priory, alpine farms, baroque churches, art deco buildings and palaces from the "Golden Era". There is a great cosmopolitan atmosphere in this small town that is both captivating and enchanting.

Chamonix has an excellent alpine museum and exhibition centre in the centre, and for those who wish to delve a little deeper into the history of the valley, a heritage guide will be only too happy to share their knowledge with you during a visit to the town.

Discover the outlying villages and hamlets, each with their individual identity and charm.

For those in search of a little retail therapy, they will be impressed by Chamonix's pedestrian centre, with its wide selection of attractive shops and boutiques. If you enjoy watching the world go by, what better place than one of Chamonix's sunny street cafés!

Apres Ski

Chamonix's Après Ski has a very metropolitan atmosphere, and is the best in the Alps, with plenty of live music, and is almost as famous as its mountains, the nightlife of Chamonix will no doubt tempt you out.

The international melting pot of mountain fanatics, have a great choice of 14 bars, 80 restaurants, and seven discotheques, Chamonix is a very lively town at night, and the pedestrian center gets busy once the lifts close.

If you want to try your luck, the world-class casino of Chamonix offers, blackjack, roulette, and more machines in the purest tradition.

Chamonix even possesses its own Microbrewery, which is a Canadian-owned Micro Brewery de Chamonix (or MBC), a 5-minute walk from the town, is another popular après-ski stop. All beer is brewed on the premises and they do a nice line in bar snacks and live music.

Restaurants

Chamonix offers a tremendous varied selection of restaurants, which widely reflects the town's international community, from Michelin starred establishments  (Albert 1ere Gastronomic), to excellent local Savoyard bistros, the choice is vast! Equally the bars in Chamonix guarantee excellent après-ski entertainment and many live bands contribute to the good cheer.
