Chamonix situated in the French Alps has a diverse range of skiing and snowboarding suited to all levels to abilities. From the family orientated ski area of Les Houches to the extreme area of Grands Montets, there really is something for everyone in Chamonix, for your luxury ski holidays....
The Chamonix Valley offers many diverse and challenging ski areas that reach altitudes of up to 3,842 m, and has over 162 km of groomed piste, with 78km of green/blue runs, and 60km being Red, and 44 km of Black runs, leaving 20 km of unprepared off piste for the more advanced skier. With a total of 74 lifts serving the area.
Chamonix, French Alps is the world capital of off piste and free-ride skiing. There are 6 extensive ski areas offering a huge amount of easy to access off piste routes. Chamonix off piste is great for all levels of off piste skier
Each Chamonix ski area offers a different type of terrain. Le Brevent and la Flegere are great for couloirs and bowl skiing for all levels of off piste skier.
Further up the Chamonix valley Les Grands Montets is a massive mountain with undoubtedly some of the best skiing in the world. This is where famous free-riders hang out. Glaciers on the upper sections lead down to wide open bowl skiing with steeps and couloirs. The tree skiing and into valley couloirs are also great for expert skiers. A great lift system opens up 3 sides to this amazing ski mountain.
Le Tour at the high end of the Chamonix valley is great for all levels on piste and off piste. The front side is easy terrain for beginner off piste skiers. The back side offers very nice terrain for more advanced and expert skiing.
The Aiguile du Midi lift takes skiers and alpinists from Chamonix town to an impressive altitude of 3842 meters. This is not a ski area for piste skiing. All the runs are off piste and on a glacier making the skiing more serious. This also offers the opportunity to ski the famed Vallee Blanche run, and High mountain guide is advised for this - this run will not disappoint, & is the holy grail to skiers on the ski holidays.
Les Houches is situated at the lower end of the Chamonix valley and offer tree-lined piste skiing and some off piste. This is where the Men's World Cup combined event the Kandahar is held. The best skiers in the world race in downhill and slalom over a 2-day event.
Les Houches is the ideal family resort, with great snow, short queues, good nursery slopes and the ski schools are very close to the chalets.
The ski school in Les Houches is run by ESF, and has over 60 instructors, and offers various different ski options www.esfleshouches.com . ESF offers great facilities for younger budding skiers (3-5 years) with their snow playground - Le Jardin Neiges, which is close to the lift centre with two rope tows enabling children to learn whilst playing in the snow, and more importantly having some fun!
