Cookery Courses School Chamonix

Here at Icona, we have created Cookery Courses & Cooking Holidays, that are more of a Food Experience, which taps into the Alpine way of life by visiting local artisans and vineyards across the French Alps, and into the Italian Aosta valley.

During your Cooking holidays you'd be hard pressed to find anything more inspirational than cooking amidst the French Mountains, surrounded by flower clad Alpine meadows in the beautiful Chamonix valley.

There's no shortage of fascinating topics to explore, from the cuisines & vineyards of Northern Italy to the hearty fare of the Rhone Alps. At our cookery school we offer a fresh approach to cooking with exciting cookery courses that emphasise the understanding of seasonal fresh local ingredients.

Through our contacts we allow you a rare view of artisans at work in the mountains of France and Italy. We believe that combined with our bespoke cookery courses you be left with profound working knowledge of this stunning regions in the French Alps.

Although Chalet Anchorage is located in Les Houches, near to  Chamonix, in the French Alps, we have easy access to Italy, with the Mont Blanc Tunnel being just 10 mins drive away.  Just through the Mont Blanc Tunnel, Courmayeur and the Aosta Valley are a food and wine lovers paradise. With award-winning wines, a rich gastronomic heritage, and a setting oozing with Alpine charm, and spending a day, or just a few hours in the Aosta Valley area is certain to be one the highlights of your holiday.

Chamonix Valley

Although Chamonix is more commonly associated with the snow and skiiing, during the spring and summer months, the Chamonix valley is a vibrant and fascinating place, that goes through an amazing transformation, from a winter wonderland, to lush green pastures, awash with wild flowers and the sound of cow bells on the steep mountain pastures.

Locally Sourced Food & the Community

We try to source all of our food locally.  We also firmly believe in trying to use food that is in season, and not been transported half way across the world.  This not only uses far more packaging, but usually is lacking in flavour.  Why use these products when you have so many beautiful vegetables, and fruit which is in season and full of goodness, and tastes wonderful??

We support our local community by buying our produce from the local suppliers, as they are the experts in their field, especially as these artisan famillies having been producing the mountain milk, cheese, and smoked meats for decades, and sometimes even centuries!  They also have so many little tips and advice for their lovingly produced food products.  We are also very concious to try to give something back to the local community by showing you the local artisans at work, and some of these ancient traditions.

During the summer months we are able grow our own vegetables, and at the back of the chalet we have wild raspberry plants, and many other wild fruits etc, that can easliy be found with a little foraging - wild strawberry's, morel mushroom's, dandelion salad leaf's, herbs & the list goes on......
