Enviroment
We consider ourselves very fortunate to live in such a stunning area as the Chamonx Valley, in the French Alps. In order to care for & protect our environment, we try to follow these guidelines, and would be very pleased if our guests would assist us in our pledge to caring for the enviroment.
Food:
We try to source all of our food locally. We also firmly believe in trying to use food that is in season, and not been transported half way across the world. This not only uses far more packaging, but usually is lacking in flavour. Why use these products when you have some many beautiful vegetables, and fruit which is in season, full of goodness, and tastes wonderful??
We try to support our local community by buying our produce from the local suppliers, and the markets, as we believe that they are the experts in their field, especially as these artisan famillies having been producing the cheese and smoked meats for decades, and sometimes even centuries!
During the summer months we also grow our own vegetables, and at the back of the chalet we have wild growing raspberry plants, and many other wild fruits etc, that can easliy be found with a little foraging - wild strawberry's, morel mushroom's, dandelion salad leaf's & the list goes on......
Our Commitment to Energy Saving
• Thermostatic radiator valves on all radiators, with sensors for open windows/doors.
• We support the local economy by trying to sourcing our produce within the local area, of Chamonix, from local suppliers and the markets, reducing the need for travelling long distances.
• Which also means the food is generally fresher, and usually uses far less packaging
• Low energy bulbs have been fitted to most of the lighting within the chalet, and the chalet is very well insulated to cope with the cold winters we experience here in Chamonix.
• Our water is glacial water, which runs directly from the glaciers in the valley here, which means they are full of minerals, and has not been pumped around a water plant and reused several times. After all, this is the same glacial water that runs straight to the Evian factory at the bottom on the mountain range - just no plastic bottles!
Please support us:
• Trying not to leave any unnecessary lights on when you go out and when you go to bed
• During the winter nights please close the curtains in your bedroom at dusk as this keeps your room warmer
• Please turn off the TV and do not leave it on standby mode
• Adjust the radiator valves in the bedroom and bathroom to suit you rather than opening the windows to cool down a room
• Please close the doors to retain heat
• Please place glass bottles at the side of your room waste bin in order for us to recycle
Our Recycling Policy
• Here in France they provide all the local areas with a choice of recyling bins, so we try to recyle our waste wherever possible -All glass is recycled, along with cardboard products.
During your stay here, we would welcome any further suggestions to help us to help protect the enviroment, as we want to keep this wonderful area, with its fresh clean air, and pure waters.
